Boxes – Cardboard boxes should not be placed directly on the concrete floors. It is recommended that boxes not be stacked because weight causes boxes to break down.
Concrete Floors – Do not set boxes, mattresses, or upholstery items directly on concrete floors. Use pallets, corrugated mats, or stack on items that have legs or feet.
Air Space – Do not stack items in the unit tight to the ceiling. Leave room for air to circulate.
Food – Do not store food or perishable items in your unit.
Prohibited Items – The following items are prohibited from being stored in your unit: perishables, liquids, explosives, flammable liquids, toxic materials or fuel.
Insurance – We ask that you insure your goods while in storage. Insurance is available for purchase in our office or you may check your homeowner’s or renter’s policy to see if your goods are covered while in a self storage unit. If you remain uninsured while in our self storage facility, we are not responsible for any loss or damage that you may suffer.
How to determine how much space you will need – It is a good idea to go to the facility and actually see several different sizes before renting the space. Click on the Storage Sizes tab for a general idea of what may fit in your unit.
Why Climate Control?
Climate controlled self storage units are equipped with heating and air conditioning systems to help protect your goods from extreme temperatures and humidity. You will also be more comfortable when you are working in your storage units, loading and unloading or just moving things around.
Climate controlled storage:
- Limits exposure to extreme temperatures and high humidity
- Helps minimize any potential damage from mold, mildew and corrosion
- Helps limit splitting and warping of wood items; and
- Lessens yellowing, cracking and fading items such as photographs.
Items most sensitive to extreme conditions are:
- Musical instruments, especially pianos
- Clothing
- Wood and leather furniture
- Books
- Electronic equipment and computers
- Business records and files
- Pharmaceutical products
- Antiques
- Photographs, vinyl records, and tapes
So, if you’re concerned about your favorite things, and want to limit the effects of temperature and humidity, you may want to consider climate controlled space.
